India has an estimated 30 million stray dogs. Behind that number
are millions of individual animals living without safety, medical
care, or the certainty of a next meal.

VOSD — Voice of Stray Dogs — was built to change that. Founded by
Rakesh Shukla in Bengaluru, VOSD has grown into India’s largest
canine welfare institution, operating at the intersection of rescue,
medicine, technology, and public health.

The World’s Largest No-Kill Sanctuary

VOSD’s 7-acre sanctuary outside Bengaluru is home to over 1,800
rescued dogs in permanent care. These are not temporary residents
awaiting adoption. Most will spend their entire lives here. They
include animals that lost limbs to train accidents, dogs blinded
by cruelty, parvo and distemper survivors, and retired service
dogs from the Karnataka Police and Indian Army.

No dog at VOSD is ever euthanised due to lack of space or
resources. The sanctuary is staffed by over 100 personnel and
houses a full veterinary hospital on-site.

India’s Largest Dog Feeding Programme

VOSD runs India’s largest street dog feeding programme, serving
13.5 lakh dog meals every year through a network of community
feeders and volunteers across Bengaluru, Pune, and beyond. A fed
dog is a healthier, calmer, and safer neighbour.

Technology That Saves Lives

VOSD built India’s first mobile app for dog rescue coordination
and operates CloudVet — an AI-powered remote veterinary service
giving expert medical guidance to dogs anywhere in India through
a smartphone. VOSD also established India’s first blood bank for
stray and pet dogs.

Prevention Through Sterilisation

Through its SafeSpay programme, VOSD conducts Animal Birth
Control sterilisation drives across Bengaluru, Pune, and
Kolhapur. Every sterilisation prevents future suffering and
reduces the stray dog population humanely and sustainably.

A Model Where Business Funds Rescue

The VOSD Trust owns a family of commercial pet care businesses —
veterinary clinics, pharma products, dog training, and more.
Every rupee of profit flows directly back to the rescue mission.
At VOSD, the dogs are the only shareholders.
