Varanasi is one of the oldest cities situated on the banks of river Ganges. Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the main among the 12 Jyotirlingas, is in Varanasi from time immemorial. Everyone knows about the importance of Lord Mahadev settled in Varanasi, but the importance of Baba Kal Bhairav, who is called the Kotwal of Kashi, is equally special. It is a religious belief that before doing any auspicious work in Kashi, the ‘Kotwal of Kashi’ i.e. Baba Kaal Bhairav is worshipped. It is believed that liquor is offered to Bhairav ji in the temple as prasad. Those devotees who offer liquor get auspicious results and their wishes are fulfilled. Kaal Bhairav Mandir is one of the main temples of Varanasi, for which there is a crowd of devotees for their darshan.
